uEye Installation

uEye ActiveX Manual Version 4.00

uEye Installation

Please install the uEye drivers on your system before connecting a uEye camera. The latest camera drivers are available for download at http://www.ueyesetup.com. Choose the option "Complete" to install the drivers for USB and GigE uEye cameras.

Detailed information on connecting and operating uEye cameras can be found in the "Installation" chapter in the uEye Manual.

Achtung

You need administrator privileges to install the software.

Connecting a USB uEye

Connect the USB uEye to the PC using a USB cable. The Windows plug and play manager recognizes the new hardware. USB uEye cameras can be connected to a USB port either directly or via hubs and repeaters. When the camera has been correctly installed, the LED on the back of the camera lights up green.

Hinweis

To use maximum bandwidth, we recommend connecting the cameras directly to the USB 2.0 ports on the mainboard. USB 2.0 ports on PCI/PCIe cards and the USB 2.0 ports on the front of the PC mostly supply lower bandwidths.

Connecting a GigE uEye

Check the power supply to the camera. Suitable AC adapters are available as accessories from IDS. Connect the camera to a Gigabit Ethernet port on the PC either directly or using switches. For connecting the camera a suitable Gigabit Ethernet transmission network cable is required.

Hinweis

Cabling

The data network and the camera network should be cabled separately. We therefore recommend connecting the GigE uEye cameras by a separate network card.

We recommend to use Cat5e type cables.

The cable length of the individual segments must not exceed 100 m. A segment is a continuous cable connection between two network devices (e.g. PC, camera, switch).

The network must be cabled throughout at either 100 Mbps or 1000 Mbps. The use of 1000 Mbps networks is recommended.

Using the GigE uEye camera through a router is not supported.

Network card

To ensure optimum performance of the network connection, you need to install the latest drivers for your network card.

GigE network adapters for PCI slots do not achieve the maximum transfer rate of 114 MByte/s. In real life conditions, the transfer rate on a PCI bus is approx. 80-90 MByte/s.

IP configuration of a GigE uEye

Before you can use the GigE uEye camera on the network, you need to assign an IP address to the camera. The IP address is assigned in the IDS Camera Manager. The IDS Camera Manager can be accessed as follows:

Start > Programs > IDS > IDS Camera Manager

Start > Control Panel > IDS Camera Manager

In most cases it is sufficient to use the "Automatic ETH configuration" button in the IDS Camera Manager to configure a camera. To configure the GigE uEye's IP settings manually, you can use the "Manual ETH configuration" button.

Hinweis

The cameras and the computer must be on the same subnet.

The network card on the host PC responsible for data transfer to and from the GigE uEye cameras requires a persistent (fixed) IP address. It cannot obtain an IP address from a DHCP server.

If a DHCP server is running on the network, you need to ensure when configuring the network card that the manually assigned address range of the uEye driver is outside the DHCP range. In this case it is recommended to do the uEye IP configuration manually ("Manual ETH configuration" function in the IDS Camera Manager).
